HWH018 Alleviating Poverty with Elizabeth Benefiel of Love INC

I had the pleasure of talking with Elizabeth Benefiel about alleviating poverty and what she does with Love INC of Yakima. There are not enough words to describe how incredible a person Elizabeth is. She has a true passion and calling to help others. She is such an inspirational individual that is doing so many good things in our community. If you have a heart for helping others you are going to love this episode. If you want to get involved with what Love INC is doing take a look at their website: Love INC of Yakima

Here are just a few of the many points that Elizabeth makes in our discussion:
• “Poverty is a result of brokenness.” “True poverty alleviation will never happen unless we address the brokenness that has caused it.” “Debt, like addiction, like so many other issues, is a symptom, it’s not the problem.”

• If you want to help alleviate poverty, “it starts with an awareness”. “Look for an organization that has a heart to address the underlying issues.”

• Be careful when helping others because sometimes, if done in the wrong way, it can actually hurt them more than it can help them. “Anytime we do something for someone that they are capable of doing for themselves we demean them, we humiliate them, and we rob them from the God given joy of becoming independent and productive.”
